Product FAQ

What makes Heukmi sweeter than a regular watermelon?
A: Heukmi is a premium Korean variety developed to grow in cooler spring conditions with controlled water and heat levels. This slows the growth process and concentrates natural sugars in the flesh — resulting in a minimum of 13–14 Brix versus 11–12 Brix for a standard watermelon. The sweetness difference is immediately noticeable.

How is this different from a Densuke or black diamond watermelon?
A: The Japanese Densuke and black diamond watermelon are premium dark-skinned varieties in the same category as Heukmi. Densuke regularly sells for hundreds of dollars per melon in Japan. Heukmi is South Korea's equivalent, the same elevated sweet watermelon quality and dark exterior, available at a significantly more accessible price point. It is the most realistic way to experience this tier of premium watermelon in Singapore.

Why is this available in spring and not summer?
A: Unlike regular watermelons which are a summer crop, Heukmi was specifically bred for cooler spring temperatures. This early harvest window of March to May is part of what makes it rare, and the cool growing conditions are directly responsible for the higher sugar concentration. Once the season ends, it is unavailable until the following year.

How large is 4kg?
A: The 4kg Heukmi is roughly the size of a soccer ball and perfectly sized for a household of 2–4 people across 2–3 sittings. Standard Korean watermelon varieties run 6–8kg.
